Yes. Pick the vision model in Models, add a photo in a chat and ask about it — the total on a receipt, the time on a flyer, what a form is asking for. The photo is read on your iPhone and never uploaded.

Honestly, no — and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. An AI that fits on a phone is very good at summarizing, rewriting, extracting and everyday questions. It's weaker at hard reasoning, and it doesn't know about current events. If you want frontier quality and you're happy sending your data to a server, use a cloud app. This is for the times you can't, or would rather not.
It's real work for your phone, so a long session uses noticeable battery and warms the device a little. Smaller models cost much less of both, and the app can slow itself down when the phone gets warm.
